Then comes exhaust. Ridge vents, static vents, or powered exhaust fans, depending on the roof’s design, pull warm, moist air out at the highest point of the attic. This is where balance matters most. Exhaust ventilation without matching intake doesn’t create airflow, it creates negative pressure, which can actually pull conditioned air out of your building and pull moisture in through gaps you didn’t know existed.
The math behind it isn’t a guess. Ventilation needs to be sized to the square footage of the attic space, following manufacturer and code requirements for net free area, the actual usable airflow opening, not just the size of the vent itself. Undersize it, and you’re back to the same heat and moisture problems you started with.
